Zespri: Chinese illegal SunGold plantings may have doubled in one year
Continued spread could reduce returns by $1.60/tray according to earlier Zespri modelling.
Kiwifruit marketer and exporter Zespri estimates there are now about 7000 to 8000 hectares of illegal Zespri SunGold kiwifruit production in the Sichuan province of China, and anecdotal evidence suggesting a further 3000 to 4000ha elsewhere in China – up to 12,000ha in total.
