CallPlus network merger lifts Orcon in performance ratings

Fri, 21 Nov 2014

TrueNet's broadband performance measurements for October show that the Callplus brands of Slingshot, Orcon and Flip have very similar results, suggesting their network is almost fully merged (CallPlus bought Orcon in June, creating NZ's third-largest ISP).

Local Fibre Companies (LFCs) are finally delivering sufficient capacity for ISPs to achieve their advertised speeds, rather than underperforming at less than the advertised speed as was evident in test results last July, says TrueNet principal John Butt.

BigPipe's ADSL performance is outstanding with off-peak speed measured at 99% of their advertised speed (as fast as the network allows), Mr Butt says. BigePipe is Spark's new no-frills, no-data caps ISP sub-brand.

In TrueNet's quarterly LFC (local fibre company) performance comparison, Ultrafast Fibre (UFF) was the best averaging over 100% of advertised speed.

TrueNet is contracted to the Commerce Commission to monitor broadband performance. It uses a network of probes attached to 400 volunteers' internet connections to rate ISPs. See it's full October report here.
