The majority of New Zealand Post Group services is operating as normal in quake-affected areas in Canterbury.
While deliveries were suspended on Saturday in the immediate aftermath of the quake, the business for New Zealand Post Group’s courier services – Pace, CourierPost and Roadstar – is now back on track operating across the region, apart from areas where access is restricted
Most PostShops across Canterbury are open, apart from the Cathedral Square North and Colombo St South PostShops as they are in the cordoned-off CBD area.
The Kaiapoi PostShop will not be opening because of structural damage. There may also be a delay in the opening of the Merivale PostShop while structural damage is inspected. Local residents will need to travel to other areas to use its services.
Canterbury-based New Zealand Post staff have worked hard over the weekend to ensure the postal network is operational on Monday.
While the main mail processing centre in Christchurch shut down immediately following the quake, it is fully operational again and the processing backlog has just about been cleared.
Mail Centre leader Joe Cannon said the attitude of staff has been impressive.
“Several of our people have been badly affected by the quake but we had a great turnout today as they were conscious that the mail had to be processed. They knew they had to get the job done,” Mr Cannon said.
