Airlines step up apps for smartphones
Airlines are stepping up services for users of smartphones, tablets and other online devices. Singapore Airlines has integrated its website bookings with Google Now, which will show you what the weather will be like at your travel destination even before your flight departure.
This feature is available via the Google Search app for iOS devices on Apple’s App Store and is built into Android 4.1+ devices, as part of Google Search. To activate Google Now on iOS devices, users only need to install the Google Search App and log in with their Google account. No installation is required for Android devices.
Meanwhile, domestic and international Air New Zealand customers can now check in with a mobile app. including choosing seats and printing boarding passes. The check in is available for iPhone and Android users from anywhere from 24 hours before departure and up until 90 minutes before an international flight and 30 minutes before a domestic service.
The flight to Kabul
Emirates has commenced its newest service, to Kabul, capital of Afghanistan. It is the 138th destination on the Emirates route network and Afghanistan is the 78th country it serves. The daily Dubai-Kabul flight offers direct connections at Dubai with all four incoming Emirates daily flights from New Zealand.
The route is operated by an Airbus A340-500 configured in a three-cabin configuration, offering 12 First Class, 42 Business Class and 204 Economy Class seats. Emirates is the only airline which offers First Class from Dubai to Kabul.
Fiji Airways boosts LA flights
Fiji Airways will add an eighth weekly service on the Nadi-Los Angeles route from June 19 to Auhust 2014 to cater for the summer travel peak in the northern hemisphere. The extra flight will operate on Thursdays.
Qatar adds seventh US gateway
Qatar Airways says its seventh gateway to the US will be Dallas/Fort Worth. It will be the airline's second route in Texas; it now operates non-stop daily to Houston from Doha. The new service will commence on July 1, 2014.
It will be operated with Boeing 777-200LR aircraft, which feature a two-class design with 42 Business Class lie-flat seats in a 2-2-2 configuration.
