An Otago woman has bequeathed the proceeds of her estate to 17 charities.
An Otago woman has bequeathed the proceeds of her estate to 17 charities.
This includes her three-bedroom Arrowtown house. Proceeds from a Bayleys auction will be given to the Royal New Zealand Foundation for its blind guide dog services.
The woman, whose name has been withheld, is descended from the McGregor family, which owned John McGregor and Co, the Dunedin-based company which built the steamship TSS Earnslaw in 1912.
Her property will be auctioned on November 29 at the Bayleys Queenstown office. It has a 2011 rateable valuation of $435,000.
The original 1970s three-bedroom weatherboard home is located in the historic precinct of Arrowtown, a short walk to Arrowtown Primary School and local cafes.
Bayleys will waive its commission from the sale and will not be charging a fee for the auction and marketing of the property.
Virtual Homes Photography and the Lakes Property Press have also donated their services, along with local print media which have donated advertising space.
