Colenso BBDO top of the pops

Colenso BBDO looks set to dominate at this year’s EFFIE Awards, topping the finalist list with 19 entries.

The agency looks to score metal across most of its major clients, including Vodafone, Frucor, Mars (Whiskas), Yellow, Fonterra and TVNZ.

Yellow Chocolate and V Rocket Pack are notable duplicate category possibilities.

The agency is dominating a couple of categories, including paradigm shift, most integrated, best use of PR/experiential, FMCG and consumer services.

A big agency doing effective work for its key clients – whatever will they think of next?!

DraftFCB is Colenso’s nearest competitor, with 12, while other “big” agencies DDB and Saatchi & Saatchi trail with one and three, respectively.

Draft is in the mix for clients such as the Ministry of Health, Mini, and Whitcoulls.

Barnes, Catmur & Friends are at the top of the indies, with seven finalist entries, while Special Group looks to make hay while the sun shines with its already gonged-up Orcon/Iggy Pop campaign, which has five entries.

However, BC&F has the goods across a couple of clients, such as Tourism Fiji, Subaru, and Southern Cross.

Meanwhile, in the Grand Effie for sustained success, there’s an ironic and amusing entry: ASB’s Goldstein is up for the award, in spite of ASB's agency switch.

He’ll compete with 99 (Farmers), BC&F (Subaru), BCG2 (Audi), DraftFCB (Mitre 10), and Saatchi & Saatchi (Westpac).

TBWA head David Walden said he'd be surprised if Goldstein took it out, as he'd never won anything except People's Choice at Axis.

"But it would be a fantastic farewell."

The big night is scheduled for October 7.
