Victoria Trayner will be the food and solutions cooperative’s first associate director.
Leading food and solutions cooperative Alliance Group is pleased to announce the appointment of Victoria Trayner as its first associate director.
Trayner and her husband Glen are fifth-generation farmers, sharemilking 650 cows near Oxford in North Canterbury. They are also actively involved in their family’s wider farming enterprise across pig farms, cropping, dairy, and an Angus beef stud.
She lectures in agribusiness and production management with Primary ITO and is chair of the Waimakariri District’s Primary Sector Plan Change 7 Committee, coordinating a sector response to the Regional Plan. She is also a director of Waimakariri Irrigation Ltd, which delivers irrigation water to 23,000ha within the Waimakariri District.
“Alliance Group is committed to supporting the future growth of the rural sector, and we need to create the next generation of leaders in order to do so,” Alliance Group chair Murray Taggart said.
“Victoria impressed us with her desire to learn and develop, her commitment to farming sustainably, and the leadership role she plays in her community.
“She certainly represents the future of our industry and we are pleased to have her on board for the next 12 months.”
Trayner is a descendant of Waitaha and Ngāti Māmoe, both of which are represented by the Ngāi Tahu iwi, and is proud to be raising her three daughters as sixth-generation guardians of the land.
“I am looking forward to gaining deeper experience in board governance practice within a cooperative structure and gaining insight into the complexities of the meat industry beyond the farm gate,” she said.
Trayner will join the board for 12 months from August 2021.
