Aroa Biosurgery Ltd has appointed Paul Shearer as a non-executive director, effective Friday October 31.
Shearer is an accomplished global healthcare executive with extensive experience in the medical device industry and a proven record of leading international sales growth.
He previously spent more than three decades with Fisher & Paykel Healthcare, including 20 years as senior vice president, sales and marketing, where he led global commercial operations across more than 50 markets and played a key role in the company’s successful sales expansion in the United States.
Earlier in his career, Shearer held senior roles in the technology sector with Computercorp Ltd and ICL Ltd before joining Fisher & Paykel Healthcare. He is also a current director of Skellerup Holdings.
Aroa CEO Brian Ward said: “Paul’s experience leading the international sales growth of a New Zealand-headquartered medical device company – including a strong track record in the United States – will provide valuable insight as Aroa continues to scale. On behalf of the team at Aroa, I extend a warm welcome to him.”
The company also announces that on the same date, John Pinion will retire from the board. A United States based medtech executive, Pinion has been on the board of directors since 2015.
Aroa board chair Jim McLean said: “On behalf of the board, I would like to thank John for his significant contribution over the past 10 years. [His] experience and insight have helped guide the company through a number of important milestones. We wish him well for the future.
I am also pleased to welcome Paul to the board. He brings deep global commercial experience that will strengthen the board’s oversight as Aroa continues to execute its growth strategy.”
Shearer will stand for election at Aroa’s next Annual Meeting.
