Champions for Change, a collective of more than 80 leading CEOs and chairs anchored by Global Women, today announced the appointment of Auckland Airport CEO Carrie Hurihanganui as its new co-chair. She will serve alongside Port of Auckland CEO Roger Gray.

The appointment follows ANZ CEO Antonia Watson’s completion of her two-year term as co-chair. Champions for Change is always jointly led by two co-chairs – one woman and one man, rotating every two years – and is vice-chaired by Dame Theresa Gattung.

Alongside Hurihanganui’s appointment, Champions for Change also welcomes two new leaders to its Governance Group: Transpower CEO James Kilty; and Morrison & Co partner, investment manager for Infratil Ltd, and chair of One New Zealand – Phillippa Harford.

The Governance Group is responsible for shaping and driving Champions for Change’s strategic priorities, deciding which initiatives and focus areas the collective will pursue.

Hurihanganui said: “When it comes to diversity and inclusion, I’m a strong believer in the concept of ‘seeing it to believe it’. We need to keep showing, rather than telling, the story of the change we want to achieve.

“At Auckland Airport, demonstrating diversity in action is a business priority, so I’m honoured to step into the role of co-chair of the Champions for Change Governance Group. I look forward to contributing to the next decade of advancing diversity and highlighting the critical role of women in leadership and governance.”

Gray said: “I’m delighted to welcome Carrie as co-chair of Champions for Change. Her leadership and commitment to diversity will bring fresh energy to our collective as we continue to drive progress.

“Champions for Change has achieved significant impact over the past decade, but there is still important work to do to accelerate change across our organisations and communities. I look forward to working alongside Carrie to build on this momentum and to ensure we keep translating commitment into tangible outcomes.”

Champions for Change recently marked its 10-year anniversary, releasing its eighth Diversity, Equity and Inclusion report in September.
