Forsyth Barr appoints new head of ECM

New head of equity capital markets Chris Connors will be based in Auckland.

Mon, 30 Nov 2020

Forsyth Barr has appointed New Zealander Chris Connors as head of equity capital markets (ECM), based in Auckland.

Connors has more than 15 years’ experience working in capital markets in Sydney, London and New Zealand. For the past six years, he worked for Canadian investment bank Canaccord Genuity in the UK. His most recent role was managing director of its investment banking division, focusing on ECM.

Connors has replaced Blair Sutherland who, after 20 years at Forsyth Barr, is retiring from the role.

Forsyth Barr head of investment banking Guy Williams said the company was sad to farewell Sutherland but excited to have someone of Connors’ calibre and experience joining the team.

“We are fortunate to have Chris join us at this extremely active time in the capital markets. This year we have helped 10 clients raise $1.4 billion of equity capital and we expect 2021 to be just as busy.” Williams said.

While in London, Connors was involved in more than 40 equity or M&A transactions, raising, or advising on, more than £6 billion for corporate clients.

Born in Greymouth on the West Coast of the South Island, Connors attended Canterbury University before joining PriceWaterhouseCoopers in New Zealand. He is a qualified chartered accountant.
