Baker Tilly Staples Rodway has appointed four new directors and a partner in January and February paying off its investment in people.
The promotion of Daniel Merckle, Hayden McGregor, Nick Li, and Reina Banno (Auckland) and Kylie Cronin (Taranaki) heralds a strong start to 2024 for one of New Zealand’s foremost accounting and advisory networks.
“New Zealand businesses have gone through a deeply challenging period. We understand the importance of providing not just exemplary advice but excellent leadership, and are steadfast in our efforts to get the best outcomes for our clients and people,” Baker Tilly Staples Rodway national chair David Searle said.
Four of the five promotees began their accounting and business advisory careers with the network, showing that its investment in internal mentoring and training is paying dividends.
Cronin was promoted to business advisory services director after 18 years at the Taranaki office. She’s a well-respected agribusiness specialist and a leader who provides a high level of support to her clients and team.
Merckle is a tax director who joined the Auckland office as a graduate in 2012. He’s become one of the foremost trusts experts for the wider network, relishing the unique nature of every trust and the governance side of his work with all its “tax fish hooks”.
Known for his financial modelling genius, McGregor is a business advisory services director who joined the office soon after Merckle. “It’s not all about the numbers, it’s the story and project that that I really enjoy. Some people we’ve worked for now consider us a non-negotiable partner, so they bring us along every time,” he said.
Banno joined Baker Tilly Staples Rodway in 2016. Her dedication to the role and outstanding commercial acumen brought rapid recognition and now she is one of the youngest audit and assurance services partners appointed in the network’s history.
Li joined the Auckland office in 2022 and has a wealth of corporate finance experience. He is a corporate advisory director who became an accountant in 2004.
His experience includes working in London for an international accounting network, founding an Asian practice, and leading capital-intensive projects.
Searle said Baker Tilly Staples Rodway’s strong focus on growing talent from within is one of the keys to the network’s success.
“We’re known for our deep knowledge and commitment to the regions we operate in across New Zealand, with a breadth of local experience and community connections that sets us apart. These appointments show our network is in good hands, with a new generation of extremely capable young leaders who will continue to help our people and clients grow and prosper.”
