The board of health insurance company Nib NZ has appointed Andrew Blair as a non-executive director, effective August 25. On November 1, Blair will succeed Nib NZ chair, Hanne Janes, who steps down from the Nib NZ board, in line with Nib’s group board renewal policy.
Nib Holdings chair, David Gordon, said Blair has extensive experience in New Zealand’s health sector. Blair is currently a director of Evolution Healthcare Group and Queenstown Airport Corporation. He is the founder and director of Andrew Blair Consulting, which has provided advice to and negotiated the sale of health specialist businesses.
Blair’s previous experience includes executive chair of Southern Cross CLT Hospital, a joint venture company that owns and operates an independent hospital in Queenstown; director of Waitaki District Healthcare Services, responsible for the safe and sustainable running of the Oamaru Hospital; chair of Capital & Coast District Health Board, which has an annual budget of more than $1.2 billion and more than 6200 employees; chair of the Hutt Valley District Health Board, and an adviser to the Forte Health board.
He has also been an adviser to BreastScreen Auckland and St Marks Women’s Health, which provide private and public health services. In 1995 he was appointed general manager of Royston Hospital.
“Andrew has extensive business experience and established stakeholder networks in New Zealand, crossing private and public sectors,” Janes said. “I look forward to working with him in the transition period.”
Gordon said: “Andrew brings very deep commercial and governance experience to Nib’s New Zealand board. He has been the chief executive of a listed company, worked closely with a wide range of public and private stakeholder groups, and has clear knowledge of public policy through his advocacy roles.”
Gordon thanked Janes for her commitment to Nib NZ, first as a non-executive director from 2016, and then as chair from March 2024. “Hanne has helped Nib NZ grow, diversify and prosper."
Blair’s appointment reflects Nib’s ongoing focus and commitment to orderly board renewal and succession planning.
