Former Vulcan Steel boss Rhys Jones is joining the board of investment company Rangatira as a non-executive director.

Chair Sam Knowles said Jones brought exceptional leadership skills and a strong record of identifying and delivering on growth opportunities to the board.

“We are pleased to welcome him to Rangatira and look forward to his valuable expertise at the table.”

In a statement, the company said Jones was a highly respected New Zealand business leader with nearly two decades of executive experience in the Australasian steel and industrial sectors.

Before taking on the role of CEO and managing director at Vulcan Steel, where he led the business for 19 years, Jones held senior leadership positions across the steel and manufacturing sectors, including executive positions at Fletchers Easysteel NZ, Pacific Steel, and Wiremakers, as well as serving as chief operating officer of Carter Holt Harvey’s pulp, paper, packaging and new ventures division.

He holds a Bachelor of Science from Victoria University of Wellington, along with a Bachelor of Business Studies and a Master of Business Studies from Massey University.

Rangatira’s shares are listed on the Unlisted Securities Exchange (USX), and the appointment is effective from today.
