Tevita Funaki has extensive board, committee and advisory experience.
Minister for Pacific Peoples Aupito William Sio today announced the appointment of Tevita Funaki as the new chair for the Pacific Business Trust (PBT).
“Mr Funaki will be responsible for the governance leadership of the Pacific Business Trust as PBT rolls out the expansion of a Pacific economic development strategy in partnership with the Ministry for Pacific Peoples,” Sio said.
Funaki will replace outgoing chair, Fa’amatuainu Tino Pereira who served as chair of PBT from October 2015 to June 30, 2019.
Funaki has been a Member of the Pacific Business Trust Board since May 2018 and chief executive of The Fono since July 2010. He has an extensive career working with Pacific communities in health and education. He leads the operational arm of The Fono, with responsibilities including liaising with The Fono’s board and senior management team, strategic planning and implementation, overseeing financial management, contract and business development (including with MoH, DHBs, PHO, and MSD), marketing, legal compliance, policy and human resources at The Fono.
Previous roles held by Funaki before he joined the Fono included, Pacific health manager for ProCare Health and National Pasifika liaison adviser for Massey University. He has also managed an employment consultancy and project management services firm and worked in health services.
Funaki is also the chair of the Ministry of Social Development Pacific Steering Group, chair of ProCare Network and a member of its Pacific Advisory Board. He is also the chair of Oceania Career Academy as well as the Unitec Fono Faufautua Committee. Member of the Northern Region DHBs Primary and Community Care Deep Dive Project Steering Group, the NZ Police Commissioner National Pacific Board, Waitemata Police District Commander’s Pacific Advisory Board and member of the Waitakere Taskforce on Family Violence.
Mr Funaki’s term is for three years until 31 July 2022.
