Transpower announces leadership team changes

Transpower New Zealand has announced the appointment of Chantelle Bramley (currently GM strategy and customer and acting GM grid development) to the role of executive general manager operations.

Bramley’s appointment was the result of an international search following the departure of former GM operations, Stephen Jay last August.

Chief executive Alison Andrew said: “An economist by training with extensive international energy and electricity experience, Bramley’s operational and strategic thinking, skills, and experience shone through the recruitment process. I am confident she will bring all that and more to our operations division as we prepare for the electrification of New Zealand’s economy.”

To further prepare for electrification and the future, a new role will be added to the executive leadership team at Transpower – executive general manager future grid.

“With Chantelle’s appointment, we have taken the opportunity to look at how we ensure we are best placed for the future in terms of the composition of our leadership team. Adding the role of EGM future grid – focused on what the transmission network and power system look like out to 2050 – is critical to setting ourselves up for success,” Andrew said.

John Clarke (currently acting GM operations) has been appointed to the role of EGM future grid.

“John brings more than 30 years industry experience to the role and, having held a range of general manager roles at Transpower since 2009, has a deep understanding of our business and our sector. John has held GM-level roles across both sides of our business and is well placed to focus on the grid that New Zealand needs in the future,” Andrew continued.

“The entire electricity industry has a huge, exciting job ahead in preparing for the electrification of the economy … one of Transpower’s [roles] is to ensure the transmission grid and power system are ready for the new demands of the future – new generation and new load. Establishing an executive-level role with a singular focus on the grid of the future and getting the right people in the right roles on our leadership team is part of our commitment to the transition,” Andrew said.

The changes take effect February 12, 2024.

The role of GM strategy and customer will be disestablished, with responsibilities being assumed by other members of the executive team.
