Real estate agents can expect to get more buck for their bang, according to data released today.

According to job ad website Seek.co.nz, the average annual real estate and property salary rose by 11.2% to $77,197 from January this year.

Jobs in community service and development – which includes managerial and co-ordinator work for foundations and the council – had the biggest increase of the groups, at 19.5%.

But their average salary, $65,508, is still significantly below the property sector.

The highest average salary was in the mining, resources and energy sector, at $111,378.

Overall, the average annual New Zealand salary package rose by 3.1 % between January and June this year. The average pay package among jobs advertised on Seek.co.nz is $72,277 – up $2,141 from January.

When it comes to regional increases, West Coast salaries saw the largest increase. Their average annual pay is now $82,916, up 5.1%. Wellington was second, at $77,981, and Auckland third at $73,355.

SEEK New Zealand general manager Janet Faulding said the sustained salary growth over the past six months was great news for people looking to earn more money by changing roles.

“For employers looking to retain good staff, now is an ideal time to look at salary packages. If budgets are unable to stretch to cover pay rises, why not consider non-monetary perks such as extra annual leave or flexible hours to show your employees that you value their skills and want to keep them?”
