Kim Dotcom’s long-awaited defence in his now lengthy extradition eligibility hearing began this week, and true to form, did not fail to disappoint.
NBR court reporter Hamish McNicol says Mr Dotcom’s lawyer Ron Mansfield had by lunchtime accused the US government of falsely translating German Skype conversations between Mr Dotcom and his fellow Megaupload co-accused.
“Where does the rot end?” Mr Mansfield asked.
He was particularly focused on the US not being able to contain its use of the word “evil,” which was picked up by media across the world, including NBR, and displayed on a rarely-seen Powerpoint presentation.
Otherwise, Mr McNicol points out how a tax fraudster, who claimed his wife had tried to kill herself in order to keep his name suppressed, and whose tax agency status is currently being argued in the courts, has been pinged again.
Wellington accountant Imran Mohammed Kamal was last week ordered to personally pay more than $5000 in costs for refusing to call a creditors’ meeting as a liquidator of an Auckland-based restaurant.
