A $17 million claim against ASB Bank and a $500,000 loan delaying an FMA trial feature in this week’s Court Report.

Court reporter Hamish McNicol reveals the latest in a long-running dispute between ASB and two former shareholders in a Napier vehicle insurance company.

The emergence of a document has seen the claim, which has twice failed, swell to more than $17 million in damages, because it proves ASB should have never authorised cheques presented by an employee who ultimately turned out to be a fraudster.

Otherwise, Mr McNicol provides more insight into financier Paul Bublitz successfully seeking a six-month delay to a trial in which he faces 49 charges brought by the Financial Markets Authority.

Entities linked to a Queenstown property development will advance him $500,000 to cover legal fees he is otherwise unable to pay, with the trial now set for August next year.
