The “well-known, Auckland-based restaurant chain” associated with companies that police seized property worth more than $34 million from last year can now be named as the Masala Indian restaurants.
A court decision, released last week, has exposed Masala as the entity investigated by Immigration NZ, the Labour Inspectorate, Inland Revenue and police.
This judgment says “significant criminal activity” is alleged against the group, including “widespread and systemic tax evasion” of about $7 million.
