The James Squire Brewery range, named after the convict father of Australian craft beer – and 11 children – has three new drops.
The Chancer – A golden ale with a tropical fruit aroma, restrained bitterness, mild carbonation and a dry finish.
One Fifty Lashes – Fruity, with hints of passionfruit, grapefruit and citrus. Named for the sentence Squire got for stealing medicines: £5 fine and 300 lashes – “150 now and the remainder when able to bear it”.
Nine Tales – An amber ale with distinctive hops and pale crystal malts for a long, slightly nutty, finish.
Squire successfully grew the first Australian hop plants and opened a brewery at Kissing Point and a tavern between Sydney and Parramatta.
The new varieties are available in six-packs (RRP $18.99) at selected supermarkets and liquor outlets.
