A crippled Qantas Airbus A380 has landed safely at Singapore's Changi Airport after suffering damage in a mid-air explosion over Indonesia's Batam Island.
The flight, QF32, was en route from Sydney to London.
One of the four engines on the A380 - the world's largest passenger airline - was shut down as a precautionary measure, Qantas said.
However, local media reports painted a more chaotic picture.
Locals reportedly saw parts of the plane fall off after the explosion. Eye witness reports suggest that debris from the explosion landed in a residential area.
Local radio, TV and website reports had large pieces of debris - including panels painted in Qantas' white and red livery - were found on Bantam.
Pictures of metal, some the size of a door, were shown on Indonesian station MetroTV, with people milling around (see website photo above).
Qantas (ASX: QAN) has never lost a flight to to an accident.
