Crown Minerals is this week expected to announce an onshore gas offer, but is keeping a lid on applications for its offshore Raukumara block offer.

Applications for exploration permits in two “substantial blocks” at Raukumara, on the northern end of the East Coast basin, closed last week and the government department says the number of applications received is commercially sensitive.

All bids are being “thoroughly evaluated” and will be announced in May.

The Northland (six blocks covering 50,000 square kilometres) and Reinga block (six blocks covering 105,230 square kilometres) offers are open until August 18 2010.

Energy and Resources Minister Gerry Brownlee announced the Reinga block offer last month, stating the "substantial" regional and national economic benefits from a potential oil and gas discovery.

Crown Minerals will promote the Reinga Basin and Northland Basin bidding rounds over the next few months to companies in Australia, North America, Europe and Asia.
