Customs lawyer becomes new Chief Censor

Public service lawyer Dr Andrew Jack has been appointed Chief Censor.
He has 26 years’ experience in the public service and significant legal expertise that includes working with the Films, Videos and Publications Classification Act 1993.
He is currently the group manager, legal and advisory services at the New Zealand Customs Service and has worked for the New Zealand Police as chief legal adviser.
“Dr Jack has a strong legal background and experience in dealing with law enforcement,” Internal Affairs Minister Nathan Guy said in announcing the appointment.
Dr Jack has been appointed for a three-year term from March 7 next year.
His appointment follows the resignation of Bill Hastings last July. He has since become a District Court Judge and chairman of the Immigration and Protection Tribunal.
