In a statement at 7.30am this morning, Telecom said cellsites still affected by its XT outage “are concentrated in the lower South Island, including in Dunedin, Invercargill, Timaru and Queenstown.”
“Concentrated” is the key qualifier in that sentence.
Lists of affected sites obtained by NBR have consistently shown a wider blackout pattern.
As of 11.30pm - with technicians due to work through the night - Telecom had restored service to a majority of population areas, but a majority of the 54 affected base stations from Taupo south had yet to be restored (details on Telecom’s fixes, response to critics and more here).
Some customers still affected by the blackout are being offered phones and service for Telecom’s old CDMA network, the company says.
Telecom (NZX: TEL) shares were down two cents to $2.38 in mid-morning trading.
