Australian company Medibank's move to buy fellow health services provider McKesson Asia-Pacific means that the Healthline telephone health service in this country will have a new owner.

In a statement today Medibank said McKesson New Zealand, which provides Healthline and other telephone health services, was a full subsidiary of McKesson Asia-Pacific and formed part of the acquisition.

Medibank Private managing director George Savvides said the deal, which needs regulatory approval, would not affect the delivery of services now provided by McKesson New Zealand, which would start trading as Medibank Health Solutions NZ.

Medibank is owned by the Australian government and is Australia's largest private health services and insurance group.
