Honda New Zealand is recalling around 10,000 Jazz and Fit hatchbacks manufactured between 2001-2007 to repair defective wiring in the headlights.

The defective wiring affected the low beam headlights, but the high beam and indicators would still work, Honda NZ managing director Graeme Seymour said today.

Honda have advised all owners of the recall.

The spare parts to fix the wiring would probably arrive in January, and "in the meantime it's perfectly okay to drive", Mr Seymour said.

About 1.35 million of the vehicles, which were made in Japan, are being recalled globally.

No accidents have been reported as a result of the defect.
