It was formerly known as the Christchurch Normal School and more recently iwas converted into private apartments.
But the earthquakes have taken a severe toll and a last-ditch effort to save the Gothic Revival building failed last week.

Restoration work is under way at the Arts Centre, Worcester Boulevard. The work will take millions of dollars over several years.
