Does Google have a mole in Twitter's highest levels?
TechCrunch's Michael Arrington reported that this may just be so, following an apparent counteroffer to a Google employee to remain with the company before the employee had told the company it was considering a move to Twitter.
TechCrunch said last year an employee had been offered $3.5 million in stock to stay with Google, and that the company may have paid as much as $150 million in stock to keep two product employees who were offered the chief product role at Twitter earlier this year. The employees, Sundar Pichai, reportedly offered $50 million, and Neal Mohan, who TechCrunch said was offered $100 million, both stayed with Google in what Arrington said "could be called an IQ test".
TechCrunch reported that sources close to Twitter have said that someone with access to the company's confidential information such as interviewees for executive positions, could be leaking information to Google, who the tech site said had set up a group to deal with employee poaching quickly.
"But we’ve never heard of Google making counter offers prior to the actual offer from Facebook or Twitter being made."
Arrington reported that Twitter PR declined to comment and when NBR tried, a message was returned saying high volume meant many inquiries could not be answered.
NBR is waiting on a reply from Google.
