In Auckland, litigation lawyer Joanna Stafford has been appointed Special Counsel. Joanna specialises in civil litigation with particular expertise in insurance litigation. She acts for a number of liability and general insurers advising on indemnity issues and defending insured claims. Joanna is primarily involved in professional indemnity claims and professional disciplinary matters involving architects, engineers, lawyers, insurance brokers, accountants, real estate agents and health professionals. In addition to formal litigation processes, she also has experience in alternative dispute resolution, particularly mediation, and regularly engages with various professional disciplinary bodies and the Health and Disability Commissioner’s Office.

Willie Hamilton and Katherine Forward are two new associates in the Christchurch office.

Hamilton specialises in litigation and dispute resolution, with a particular focus on insurance litigation.

He has acted for both insurers and insured parties, with a specific focus on professional indemnity and material damage claims.  Outside the insurance sector, Hamilton works on commercial litigation and secured recoveries.

Forward is an environmental lawyer with particular expertise in the rural sector, including irrigation development, change of land use and nutrient management, and all associated resource consenting and plan change matters. She is an experienced advocate. In her recent work, Forward has represented a number of land holders in the Mackenzie and Waitaki Districts in proceedings before the Environment Court, the High Court and the Court of Appeal.

Five lawyers have also been promoted to senior solicitors: Anya Park and Sinead Dennis (Auckland); Michael Beck, Charlotte Johnson, and Tristan Sage (Christchurch).

Duncan Cotterill chairman Scott Moran said the appointments, all from within Duncan Cotterill, indicated the strength of the firm and the career path available to successful solicitors.
