Entrepreneurs have always been one step ahead of the game, but a former Dean at the University of Waikato has taken the extra leap in being named New Zealand Entrepreneur of the Year at the New Zealand Engineering Awards last night.

Ian Graham, a founder and chairman of network monitoring and security company Endace, walks away with the award as a result of his entrepreneurial leadership in the field of information and communications technology.

Gretchen Kivell, convenor of the People Awards Panel, has praised Dr Graham’s achievements in the fields of engineering and technological advancements.

“We are thrilled to announce Dr Ian Graham as Engineering Entrepreneur of the Year. He has been at the forefront of network monitoring technology for more than a decade.

“Not only has he developed world-leading technology, he has also been instrumental in bringing it to market and making it a commercial success.”

The award tops off a successful period for Endace, which recently posted strong half-year trading results and is celebrating its 10-year anniversary with revenues in excess of US $38 million (NZ $48.7 million) in its fiscal year 2011.

Under Graham’s current leadership, Endace has developed into one of New Zealand’s most highly valued international tech success stories, winning multiple awards in the past such as High Tech Company of the Year, Exporter of the Year and Emerging Company of the Year.

“Ian’s Award is well deserved, and we are extremely proud of all that he has achieved,” says Mike Riley, Endace’s chief executive officer.
