Ewen Macdonald has been found not guilty of murdering his brother-in-law Scott Guy.

Mr Guy's wife Kylee reportedly cried out "he killed my husband'' before storming from the courtroom in tears.

Macdonald's wife Anna, who is Mr Guy's sister, cried as the verdict was delivered.

The verdict ends the four-week trial in the High Court in Wellington.

The Crown alleged Macdonald shot Guy (31) dead outside his Aorangi Rd, Feilding, property early on the morning of July 8, 2010, over tensions about the future of the family farm.

The jury of seven men and four women began deliberating shortly after 11.30am yesterday after Justice Simon France summed up.

They retired about 5pm yesterday and resumed their deliberations at 9am.

Macdonald was remanded in custody for a callover in Palmerston District Court on July 31.

A sentencing date will then be set for other charges, which include arson and criminal damage, to which Macdonald earlier pleaded guilty.
