One of the world’s finest private collections of Macallan single malt whisky will go under the hammer in a special auction this month.
It is expected to fetch a record price.
A former chairman of Macallan-Glenlivet, Allan Shiach, is putting his private collection of 72 single malt whisky bottles up for sale at auctioneer McTear’s.
The lots include two bottles of Macallan that were distilled in 1928 and are worth an estimated £10,000 each.
Mr Shiach, who is also a film producer and writer under the name Allan Scott, says he is selling because the bottles are “too valuable to drink and too rare to replace”.
Other bottles in the collection, which will be auctioned in Glasgow on October 24, include a 1951 single malt, which is expected to fetch £3000, and two rare bottles of 1946 Macallan.
Mr Shiach began his career in the whisky industry almost 50 years ago.
He remained at Macallan-Glenlivet until 1996, when the company was taken over by the Edrington Group.
