The Reserve Bank has appointed Mark Perry head of financial markets. The department is responsible for the bank’s domestic and foreign exchange markets activity and for research and analysis. Mr Perry spent more than 20 years in senior roles in New Zealand, Australia and the UK. This includes a 15-year career with BNZ, including five years as its head of financial markets.

WHK Group NZ has appointed Craig Macalister as the tax consulting principal in Invercargill. Mr Macalister was previously tax director with the New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants.

Air navigation service provider Airways has appointed Russell Hulstrom general manager ventures. Mr Hulstrom was vice-president, business development and chief operating officer at Brüel & Kjær (formerly Lochard Ltd). Previously he managed the air traffic control business for Era Corporation, a global supplier of multilateration and ADSB surveillance systems.

Joanna Norris has been appointed editor at The Press, succeeding Andrew Holden. Ms Norris, the digital editor of the dompost.co.nz website in Wellington, is a former Press chief reporter. She has worked as a journalist and senior newsroom leader on daily newspapers in the UK and the Middle East. She has won several journalism and leadership awards. Mr Holden is now editor-in-chief of The Age in Melbourne.

Wellington-based software company Syl Semantics has appointed two non-executive directors to its board, John Selby and Marcel van den Assum. A chartered accountant and former PricewaterhouseCoopers audit partner, Mr Selby provided acquisition, audit and risk management services to public and private companies in New Zealand, Australia and Asia for 24 years. He now acts in a governance role for Victoria University of Wellington, the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment, and the Productivity Commission. Mr van den Assum is a professional director and independent business adviser. He is chairman of Voco and Greenbutton, a director of Simpl Group and Yonix, a partner in Lush Design Gallery and is on the Inland Revenue advisory board. Earlier Mr van den Assum was chief information officer of Fonterra. He is a member of Angel HQ, Ice Angels, the Institute of Directors and Business for Social Responsibility.

Mitre 10 NZ has appointed Ben Leduc general manager of retail operations. Mr Leduc is returning to the company after a period as group general manager of retail and then merchandise and marketing at Mitre 10 Australia and a stint as vice-president of retail for RONA in its Ontario market. RONA is Canada’s largest distributor and retailer of hardware, home renovation and gardening. Earlier, with Mitre 10 New Zealand, Mr Leduc was involved in the early development of the Mitre 10 Megastore format.

Architecture firm Warren & Mahoney has appointed Daryl Maguire senior architect and principal in its Christ-church studio. Mr Maguire was the designer behind Christchurch’s new temporary AMI Stadium, which was built in just 100 days. He has been an architect for 25 years and currently works for Populous, an international architecture firm specialising in sports stadiums. He has also worked on event centres, theatres, retail, master planning and office buildings. Mr Maguire has previously worked at firms including Chow Hill, Craig Craig Moller, ASC Architects, Altoon + Porter and Renzo Zecchetto Architects, USA.

Acronis, a provider of e-disaster recovery and data protection solutions, has appointed Andy Purvis general manager Australia and New Zealand. Mr Purvis has over 25 years’ experience in leadership, general and executive management positions. He has also been an executive director at Dell.
