National intellectual property law firm James & Wells is proud to announce the appointment of Jason Wach as a Senior Associate in their Auckland-based litigation team.

Jason joins the firm having worked for the past five years as a barrister employed by one of New Zealand’s leading intellectual property QC’s. Prior to that, Jason held roles in the litigation teams of two leading Auckland-based law firms.

Gus Hazel, Partner and head of the Auckland-litigation division, says the appointment adds to the strength of the group and reflects the positive outlook for the firm and its litigation team.

Jason has worked in a range industries, and has assisted collective licensing organisations (in the areas of music and reprographic rights), leading fashion brands, manufacturers, software developers, media organisations, and food and beverage companies to protect, secure and enforce their rights in New Zealand and globally.

Jason has appeared in the trade marks and patent offices, District Court, High Court, and Court of Appeal. He has advised on disputes in the areas of trade mark opposition, validity and infringement, copyright infringement, copyright licensing, counterfeiting, trade secrets and restraints of trade, patent opposition, misleading and deceptive conduct, domain name disputes, and general commercial matters.

He also has experience in advising on non-contentious matters, often in the field of IP, including in relation to branding, IP licensing, manufacturing, supply and distribution agreements, and legislative compliance matters. He has extensive experience in advising clients on securing trade mark registrations in New Zealand and offshore.

Apart from his IP and litigation expertise, Jason is a keen musician, family man (with 3 young children) and a pleasure to work with.  James & Wells is proud to have him on board.
