Arthur Toye Fabrics is closing down after 75 years of fabric retailing in New Zealand, selling the last of its stock at half price at its remaining three North Island stores.
The Gisborne-based business announced the closure in an email to customers. The company closed its Wairau Park, Auckland, store in September after more than 20 years, and is now shutting its remaining Wellington, Palmerston North and Gisborne stores, according to the emails.
It also appears to have previously had a store in Tauranga.
Peter Toye, who owns 48 percent of the company, declined to comment when approached by BusinessDesk at the Wellington store today. The remaining stores will close as leases expire, the company said in the email, without providing details.
Arthur Toye's registered office, Gisborne-based accounting firm Jackson Blakeman, declined to comment.
