Facebook: txt snooping report 'completely wrong'
Facebook has denied claims from 'The Sunday Times' they have been accessing user's personal text messages.
User privacy issues through social networking site ‘Facebook’ have been appearing frequently for some time, but the latest concern has risen regarding the company’s open access to people’s personal text messages, according to a report by the Sunday Times (UK).
The British newspaper published a report on the 25 February saying how Facebook “admitted” to reading text messages sent and received by users during a test of its own text messaging service.
Facebook was quick to respond to the accusation, telling Business Insider that the report is inaccurate, misleading and “completely wrong”.
“Lots of communications apps use these permissions,” said Facebook in a statement to Business Insider.
“The Sunday Times is completely wrong when it says Facebook is reading people’s [text messages]. Wrong on the terminology, and wrong on the suggestion that it has been implemented.”
The report by the Sunday Times has since then been removed from their website, but still appears down the list of related search results.
