Long-time property investor and financier Brian Fitzgerald is perhaps best known for his part in raising over $250 million to finance the huge Princes Wharf development on Auckland’s waterfront.
Other significant developments created under the investment company Salisbury, which he ran with long-time business partners Marc Lindale and Graham Jackson, have included the $25m revamp of the Victoria Park Markets and roles in the creation of Hilton hotels in Auckland and Taupo.
Fitzgerald’s expansive property interests are held by numerous companies, some of which are in trust and span the country.
In the more controversial part of his career, Fitzgerald was working with Strategic Finance when the company collapsed in 2008 owing investors $368m. He is also former managing director of Equiticorp Australia and was a key witness in two 1990s trials involving corporate fraudster Allan Hawkins, former Equiticorp boss and frontman in its $2 billion collapse.
Fitzgerald’s trustees also hold a 37.55% stake in Nourish Group which includes Auckland’s Soul Bar and a stable of 11 restaurants including the Jervois Steakhouses, the Crab Shack, and Wellington’s Shed 5 Restaurant.
