Bob Major, who was a Sanlu board member at the time of the infant formula poisoning in China in 2008 that saw four babies die and more than 50,000 fall children ill, is to address a meeting of the New Zealand China Trade Association on Tuesday.
He will speak on the successes and challenges of implementing a business strategy in China.
Widely seen as the fall guy when he left Fonterra the year after the scandal, Mr Major worked in China for many years, including stints at the former Dairy Board and Dairy Research Institute, before he joined Fonterra.
He retired from the dairy co-operative in 2009.
Also due to speak at the NZCTA event is Ferdinand Balfoort, group finance director for Teknatool International Ltd, the recent winner of the Mondiale Investor in China prize at the NZCTA awards.
Mr Balfoot will discuss working with partners in China.
Andrew Leys of HSBC will present the results of the bank's recent trade confidence index, which showed that exporters and importers around the world remained optimistic about trade prospects for the next six months, despite increasing concerns about rising costs, reduced profitability and volatile demand.
