The incident happened near the city end of Mt Eden Rd in September.

It is alleged Mr Hallwright ran over Mr Kim, then drove away away from the scene. He dialed 111, then returned to the scene and handed himself in to police a short time later.

Both Mr Kim's legs were broken and one ankle shattered, requiring multiple reconstructive surgeries.

Mr Hallwright is charged with charged with reckless disregard for the safety of another, causing grievous bodily harm.

The charge carries a maximum sentence of seven years.

The case is scheduled for the Auckland District Court in February.
