A fourth New Zealand Trade and Enterprise (NZTE) office was opened in China by Trade Minister Tim Groser yesterday.
The office, in Shenzhen, will aim to provide greater access for New Zealand businesses in south China as ties between the two countries strengthen, Mr Groser said.
"There is significant business potential in this fast-growing city and we have a strong ambition to expand New Zealand's already strong trade profile into areas of increasing development such as hi-tech innovation," he said.
"Given our distance from major export markets, New Zealand has a tradition for ingenuity in ICT (information and communication technologies). Over the past few years a number of New Zealand ICT companies have established in Shenzhen, and NZTE is committed to helping further develop this city into a mini hub for innovation and technology."
Mr Groser also officially opened New Zealand Focus -- the first of two New Zealand-branded retail stores in Guangzhou -- which will give China consumers access to a range of New Zealand products.
The opening of the store follows the success of the New Zealand Focus centre in Hong Kong, opened in 2005 by NZTE.
The China store is owned and operated by Hong Kong-registered company, New Zealand Products.
