One of New Zealand’s top home builders is celebrating significant milestone – building its 10,000th home in this country.
G.J. Gardner Homes has begun work on its 10,000th home in Riverhead by the Rodney franchise holder.
G.J Gardner managing director Grant Porteous says the company has built homes for buyers across the spectrum.
He says some of the homes have been built for first home buyers “but the greater volume of our homes would be second and third home buyers.”
He says G.J Gardner has also been selling to people looking to retire to a country estate or a more remote home.
“We want to make building a new home an awesome experience with no regrets, and to hear people say how they loved every moment of it and their new home still remains the best reward.”
The homes range from modest homes to the more extravagant, including projects such as schools; yacht clubs, doctor’s surgeries and childcare centres.
Mr Porteous says the success of building so many homes comes down to staying focused on the company’s vision.
He says the company strives to have every customer recommend it to their closest friends and says this formula has contributed to its housing milestone.
Mr Porteous points out that, although business is going well, there are still some issues of concern within the market.
“We recently did a review for master builders and we compared a plan what was built 10 years ago to building now.”
“Sadly, most of the costs that have been added to that home weren’t always adding great value to the customers, so there was a lot of additional red tape costs.”
He says even things approved as new building systems which G.J Gardner didnt believe added to the quality of that building “are being pushed upon us legislatively.”
Despite this, Mr Porteous says he’s optimistic about the future.
“We’re looking forward to building the next 10,000 homes.”
