As his 70th birthday approaching, Gary Paykel says he will step down from chairing Fisher & Paykel Healthcare’s board next year.
Mr Paykel, who has been with Fisher & Paykel group of companies for 50 years and its chairman of the medical products manufacturer for 10, told shareholders of his decision at the company's annual meeting this afternoon.
He will remain a director of the board from March, when the former managing director of Foodstuffs New Zealand Tony Carter succeeds him as chairman.
Mr Carter joined the board of Fisher & Paykel Healthcare last year after retiring from Foodstuffs. He is a non-executive director of Vector, Fletcher Building and Air New Zealand.
