The TRENZ tourism conference in Auckland on April 21-23 has attracted 290 overseas buyers so far.
The conference is the industry’s premier annual opportunity for about 250 tourism operators to showcase their offerings.
The 290 buyers have indicated they expect to direct about 700,000 overseas tourists here, which accounts for roughly half of all overseas visitors annually.
The highest level of attendance is from Australia and China, New Zealand’s two largest visitor markets.
Chinese visitors to New Zealand spent $651 million in 2012, up 42% on the previous year.
Tourism is worth about $23.4 billion annually.
