The government is putting up $4 million for the Len Lye Centre which will be built next to New Plymouth's Govett-Brewster Art Gallery, Arts and Culture Minister Chris Finalayson says.
"Len Lye's work is both nationally and internationally significant," Mr Finlayson said today.
"Funding to the Len Lye Centre project will ensure New Plymouth's visitors and residents will have substantially better access to this collection of work by one of New Zealand's pre-eminent artists."
Mr Finlayson said the artworks captured motion and often utilised sound, movement and light. Many were crafted from stainless steel.
The grant is being made under the Regional Museums Policy Funding, which is intended to ensure nationally significant material is housed adequately and made accessible.
