Since its release, DeepSeek’s R1 model has caused quite the stir. It has come out of nowhere and performs at least on a par with some of Silicon Valley’s top models like, for example, OpenAI’s o1. And purportedly at a fraction of the cost.
On top of this, the R1 claims to be open source.
