On the face of it, the trio of companies looking to break Southern Cross Cable’s monopoly on fibre running out of New Zealand will have a tough time of it.

Southern Cross – 50% owned by Telecom, 40% by SingTel-Optus and 10% by Verizon – is incorporated in Bermuda, safely beyond the clutches
