Denmark's Haarslev Industries, the world’s largest manufacturer and supplier of rendering and pet food processing systems, has bought Auckland rendering equipment designer and installer Flo-Dry Engineering for an undisclosed sum.
The deal will open up markets across Europe, the United States, Asia, the Middle East and South America for Flo-Dry’s services in low temperature rendering, high quality gel-bone production, bio-diesel manufacture and municipal sludge treatment.
General manager and founder of Flo-Dry Engineering says the merger is good news for the New Zealand meat industry.
“Benefits to renderers in this country include being able to source all types of rendering systems direct from the original designers and manufacturers, with installers and service staff based here in New Zealand.”
Flo-Dry most recently launched the patented Electro D Hydro (EDH) process together with the Enersaver2 energy-efficient thermal drying process.
In the year ended June 2011, total New Zealand meat exports (including co-products) totaled $6.2 billion, an 8.8% increase from the previous year ($5.7 billion), which makes up around 26% of New Zealand's primary sector revenue.
