Terry Jarvis’ dream run with his former horse of the year, Bonneval, is over after she retired with seven wins from 14 starts and stakes of $1.68 million.
Jarvis owned the filly with Alister Lawrence and John Rattray but late last year she was sold to Waikato Stud.
Jarvis’ passion is in thoroughbreds and he developed The Oaks stud. He became involved in horse breeding as well as property development, including the 41-section Evergreen Estate in the Waikato town of Matamata.
The former test cricketer first came into business prominence after he started Sky TV with Craig Heatley in 1987.
After getting out of the pay-TV game he got into growing avocados before selling his 159ha Northland farm property for an undisclosed sum. Jarvis then turned his attention to the Manuka honey market with Northland-based King Honey Ltd.
Jarvis also retains interests in the wine industry through Jarvis Wine Company, which owns the Sleeping Giant vineyard in Hawke’s Bay.
Jarvis’ philanthropic activities include being a major benefactor to the Parnell Cricket Club and also sponsor of the purpose-built, indoor sports facility the Terry Jarvis Centre in Remuera.
