Employment market is on its way to recovery with almost 8 in 10 companies currently recruiting.
According to an interim survey conducted by Clarian Human Resources approximately 75% of employer respondents are recruiting at the moment; out of these, 45% are recruiting to replace voluntary leavers, 33% to fill newly identified roles and almost 30% due to growth in the business.
Clarian Human Resources is a human resources consultancy, which supports senior executives and boards on key structural decision-making in New Zealand and Australia.
Clare Parkes, Clarian Human Resources founder and managing director, said these figures indicate employment confidence is on the rise among both employees and employers in New Zealand.
“According to initial findings, almost 38% of employers we surveyed have increased their staff number in the last 12 months, and half of the respondents expect their organisational headcount to increase within the next year.
“It paints an encouraging picture of the current New Zealand employment environment especially from an employer’s perspective.”
More than half of the employers interviewed said the requirement of skills since the recession has remained unchanged. For those that do require skill changes, the primary skills highly in demand are in managerial, professional and technical positions.
“Of course, these are just indicative findings and the full research results will reveal a broader outlook on employment sentiment in New Zealand,” said Parkes.
The results were collated from 387 respondents, of which almost 65% were employers, with more than half of those being from senior management positions.
