Josie Pagani has been confirmed as Labour's candidate in Rangitikei in this year's general election.

Cabinet Minister Simon Power won the seat with a majority of 289 in 1999 and retained it with a majority of 12,042 at the last election.

Early this month he announced he would not be standing again and Ms Pagani said at the time that that opened up Labour's chances in the seat.

Ms Pagani has worked with aid organisations and has been a Beehive press secretary.

In 2008 she was a candidate for Jim Anderton's Progressive Party. She previously sought to represent the Mana seat but Kris Faafoi was selection and won that by-election this year.
